DEHRADUN: Sharing a common goal of joining the armed forces, Telluri Agnes, 13, a resident of Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, got admission in class VIII of the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, where her brother Telluri Srujan, 15, is studying in class X. This would be the first instance for the RIMC where a brother-sister duo would be studying together since the institute allowed admission for girls last year.
“Once my brother got into RIMC, I, too, got motivated to join the institute and started preparing for it. I feel happy today to have joined him. We share a common ambition of joining the armed forces after passing from here. If we succeed, we would be the first from our family to achieve this feat,” Agnes said. Both their parents, Telluri Stalin and Manda Eswaramma, work as executive engineers in Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd.
Terming it a “matter of pride”, Lt Col Manish Srivastava, public relation officer, ministry of defence, Dehradun, told TOI on Tuesday: “After getting admission in RIMC, Agnes has joined her brother Srujan. With this, they have become the first brother-sister duo to study in the institute.”
Agnes was part of the nine girls who succeeded in getting admission in the institute in its spring term-2023. It is the second batch of girl students after RIMC authorities opened the doors to them last year.
Established in 1922, RIMC was known as ‘Royal Indian Military College’ before independence. It now admits students from class VIII and offers 30 seats each during two terms in a year, of which five are reserved for girls since last year. It is considered as the feeder institute for NDA and Naval Academy in India.
