'Special win': BCCI announces 5 crore cash prize for inaugural champions India as wishes pour in | Cricket News



NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced a whopping Rs 5 crore cash prize for the Shafali Verma-led Indian team as they lifted the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the wishes as the young Indian team outclassed England by 7 wickets in the final in Potchefstroom.
Calling it a ‘special win’ PM Modi said that the victory will inspire upcoming cricketers.

Along with the cash prize of Rs 5 crore for the team and the support staff, board secretary Shah also invited the entire contingent to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for the third India vs New Zealand T20I on February 1 where the team will be felicitated.

India ODI and Test skipper Rohit Sharma, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Head of NCA VVS Laxman were among countless high profile personalities who congratulated the Shafali-led team for the win.

In the final, the Indian girls outplayed England in every aspect of the game. They first bowled out England for a paltry 68 and then chased down the target with 6 overs remaining.

Pacer Titas Sadhu was adjudged Player of the Match for her excellent figures of 4-0-6-2.
